What it is
Alaska State Parks, the Forest Service, the Park Service, and the BLM all rent cabins. Some you can drive to. Most you walk, fly, or boat to. Reservations run through Recreation.gov or the state system, and the popular ones go fast. There is no bedding, no water you should drink untreated, and no one coming to check on you. That is the appeal.
Before you go
Read the cabin page for access and what is actually inside. Pack a stove, a pad, and a way to treat water.
