What it is
Alyeska is a real ski mountain, not a novelty hill, and it sits 40 minutes from Anchorage in Girdwood. Winter is for skiing and riding. Summer, the tram still runs and the hotel looks at the arm. It is the easiest “I am in the mountains” night if you are based in Anchorage and do not want a long drive.
Before you go
Maritime snow means wet days and ice days. Check the avalanche forecast before you leave the resort boundary.
