What it is
Private cars stop early on the Denali park road. The bus is the trip: hours of tundra, a chance at the big five, and a driver who knows where the sheep usually stand. You can get off and hike, then catch a later bus, if you are prepared to wait. Stay a night near the entrance or you will spend the best hours on the Parks Highway.
Before you go
Book the bus when you book the trip. Bring lunch and binoculars. The mountain is visible about a third of the time.
