What it is
Places like Borealis Basecamp put you in a clear-topped room aimed at the part of the sky the aurora prefers. You are paying for the glass, the darkness, and someone else watching the forecast. It is still weather. A cloudy week is a cloudy week. Book more than one night if the lights are the reason you came.
Before you go
Winter roads to some of these properties are the hard part. Take the shuttle if they offer one.
