Hike Flattop
The short, steep Anchorage classic with a view of the city, the inlet, and the Chugach.

What it is
Flattop is the mountain locals tell visitors to do first. The trail is not long and it is not gentle. From the top you see Anchorage, Cook Inlet, and the front of the Chugach. In winter it is a different trip and wants more judgment about snow and wind. The lot fills on clear weekends.
Before you go
Start early. The last pitch is rock, not a staircase. Turn around if weather drops.
